Test to Discover If You Have Issues with Being Alone
In a previous post, I explained the psychological reasons why you might struggle to be alone. This time, I bring you a super simple test to explore whether you have issues with solitude.
Many people with such difficulties tend to overlook the discomfort they feel when alone. To compensate, they seek every possible way to stay in the company of others.
So, if people have told you that you find it hard to be alone and you suspect you may have problems with loneliness, here’s a test to help you discover if you struggle with being by yourself.
🚨🚨 Warning: The results of this test do not constitute a psychological diagnosis or a detailed explanation of your personality. They are for reference purposes only.
Loneliness Test
Answer YES, SOMETIMES, or NO to the following questions:
- Do you fear separation, even if it’s temporary?
- Do you do everything possible to avoid being alone, even if it puts you in uncomfortable situations?
- Do you feel incapable of managing on your own?
- Do you constantly need displays of affection?
- Do you frequently need to feel loved or desired?
- Do you find it difficult to tolerate rejection?
- Have you experienced sadness, anxiety, or disappointment due to loneliness?
- Do you feel the need to talk to someone minute by minute?
- Do you need company to go out or do any activity?
- Do you feel like you can’t have fun on your own?
- Are you always thinking in terms of “we” instead of “I”?
- Do you avoid places or situations where you don’t know anyone?
If your answer to more than half of these questions was YES or SOMETIMES, you may have certain difficulties dealing with loneliness.
Final Tips 💙
Remember that loneliness itself is not the problem, but how you understand or interpret it. Here are some ideas to help you change your perspective on being alone:
- Being alone is a moment for yourself, to care for and nurture yourself.
- In your mind, you are always alone, so be kinder to yourself.
- If someone doesn’t respond or can’t be with you, it doesn’t mean they value you any less or consider you unimportant.
- Everyone needs personal space, physical and emotional, including you.
- Nurture your inner world so it becomes as engaging or even more interesting than the external world.
